Since this property came under our stewardship, we have transitioned to using only organic inputs in our farming, many of which we now make on-site from raw ingredients. We are also working to incorporate regenerative and sustainable practices increasingly into our operation. Our approach to farming and winemaking isn’t driven by the desire to preach or soapbox about philosophy or false perceptions of moral superiority. We don’t do things because of implied marketing advantages or because of monetary profit motives. Our approach is based upon what we believe to be best for our land, our vines, and the people who care for them, nothing more and nothing less. We’re not interested in arguing about whether organic is better than biodynamic or whether natural wine is better than traditional wines. We do what we do the way we do it because we think that’s just the right way to go about it.
Some specific changes we’ve already made include overhauling all of our irrigation and frost protection systems to utilize technology and minimize our consumption of energy and resources, thus reducing our impact on the water table each year by as much as 30% and consuming far less electricity in the process. All of the pressure treated wood posts in the vineyard have been replaced with steel trellising systems. Longterm, we will also be incorporating solar power, animal power, and food cultivation as a part of our commitment to achieving sustainability on the farm. Join us on the adventure!
Deer Creek Vineyards has been under new vision and direction since August of 2019, but at the core of our philosophy is the belief that no man can truly own the land. We are stewards for a short time in the grand scheme of history.
In the first three of years of stewarding this vineyard, we have focused on learning the nuances of the site, making thoughtful adjustments to the farming practices, and overhauling our infrastructure and maintenance standards, while also working to build an amazing team of local folks who love being amongst the vines each day.
We hope that our farm and winery will inspire others in the community and in the world around us to remember how important our roles are as stewards of the land. We are privileged to be entrusted with the caretaking of this special place, and it is with that reverence, respect and awe that we farm this land and operate our business.
There are lots of big changes in the works at Deer Creek Vineyards and we’re excited to build a space where you can come to enjoy our hand-farmed wines and the relaxing magic of our vineyard. Our newly remodeled Wine Lounge will feature our full lineup of Estate Grown wines as well as a carefully curated Cellar full of some of our favorite wines from across the world. We want to offer a different type of experience at our Vineyard & Wine Lounge, one that can be both fun, educational and relaxing – a true break from the hustle and bustle of the daily grind and a place to make memories with the people you love. We want this to be a connecting point where folks can come to learn more about Vineyard Farming, Wine Production, and connection to the land and the produce we grow on it.
Our Wine Lounge will reopen this Summer (currently slated to for between August & September 1st). Check our social media & online events calendar regularly for updates and announcements about upcoming happenings at Deer Creek Vineyards. We’ve got some fun stuff in the works and can’t wait to see you all here again in the vineyard soon!
